Auger-Aliassime Set For Third Appearance At the Desert

Ahead of his third straight appearance in the Indian Wells main draw, Felix Auger-Aliassime is part of a strong contingent of Canadian tennis players this fortnight.

The 21-year-old was so profound in his assessment of tennis’ newest generation taking over from the Big 3, but remained tight-lipped on whether we may have witnessed the end of an era. Auger-Aliassime is part of the Next Gen stars who is destined for big things in the coming years, but is yet to win an ATP tour title.

The man from Montreal has produced a series of eye-catching performances this season including at this year’s US Open where he reached his maiden Grand Slam semifinal.

Auger-Aliassime was involved in some doubles action alongside Hubert Hurkacz on Friday, but the pair of them were beaten in the first round by the more reliable due of Denis Shapovalov and Rohan Bopanna

Ramos Vinolas Stuns Musetti

Unlike Auger-Aliassime, Albert Ramos Vinolas is playing in his eighth main draw at the Indian Wells Masters. But the experienced Spaniard hasn’t lasted beyond the third round at any of the previous seven editions.

Ramos Vinolas began his campaign on Friday against the out-of-form Italian Lorenzo Musetti. The World No. 48 completely bossed proceedings against the 19-year-old who is in the midst of a career slump and whose game has malfunctioned badly in recent months.

The 33-year-old Spanish lefty dropped just five points behind his first serve in the entire match and saved five of six breakpoints. He would break Musetti’s serve multiple times in each set, clearly exposing the frailties in the Italian’s game.

Ramos Vinolas improved to 23-22 for the season and will be seeking his 11th win at Indian Wells when he takes on seventh-seeded Auger-Aliassime.
