Matteo Berrettini v Taylor Fritz Head to Head
They met once at the David Cup in 2019 and Fritz won that match in three sets.
Berrettini Wins For the First Time at Indian Wells
Following two first-round exits in his only two Indian Wells appearances in 2018 and 2019, Matteo Berrettini finally registered his first win in the tournament on Sunday as the Italian knocked out Chilean qualifier Alejandro Tabilo in straight sets.
The world No. 7 served 11 aces, struck 24 winners to 22 from Tabilo and made just 11 unforced errors against the Chilean’s 22 to win the one hour and 31 minute contest 6-4, 7-5.
While Berrettini saved both the break points that he faced, he broke Tabilo once in each set to move into the third round.
With the win, the Wimbledon runner-up improved to 39-9 this season. He has already captured two titles this year to add to his previous three, winning the finals in Belgrade and Queen’s. The Italian also came agonisingly close to a third in Madrid, before going down to Alexander Zverev in the final.
Berrettini came into the tournament with a 14-4 record on hard courts. Recently, he was in the quarterfinals of the U.S. Open and won his only singles match at the Laver Cup. The Italian is in top form this year and looks set for a long run in the tournament.
Fritz Takes Out Nakashima
No. 31 seed Taylor Fritz of the U.S. dumped out compatriot Brandon Nakashima in the second round on Sunday.
Fritz, who was a break down in the first set, broke Nakashima twice in the later stages to claim the first. In the second, he was the only one to get a break as he wrapped up the one hour and 21 minute contest 6-3, 6-4.
Winning 74% first-serve points, Fritz struck 17 winners and 17 unforced errors.
The World No. 39 improved to 23-18 this year. He reached back-to-back semifinals in Los Cabos and Atlanta but lost form since then, and came into teh tournament with a 2-6 record from his last eight matches.
The 23-year-old is playing at Indian Wells for the fifth time and his best so far has been a Round of 16 appearance in 2018.
Berrettini v Fritz Prediction and Tip
While Berrettini has been in top form through the season, Fritz has been consistently inconsistent. Having notched his first win at Indian Wells on Sunday, the Italian is expected to get a second on Tuesday.
