Roberto Bautista Agut v Cameron Norrie Head to Head

Bautista Agut and Norrie have crossed paths once before this. That was in a Davis Cup singles rubber in 2018 which the Brit won in five sets.

Bautista Agut Dispatches Pella

Roberto Bautista Agut picked up his 28th match win of the season after coming through a tough second-round against Argentina’s Guido Pella in straight sets. The Spaniard’s 7-5 6-3 victory lasted eight minutes shy of two hours.

In a fiercely contested match, both players overcame some nervy moments early on as they exchanged breaks, to begin with.

That pattern of play repeated itself towards the end of the set except that this time, it was the Spanish World No. 19 who managed to eke out two successive breaks of serve to pinch the set. That opening stanza lasted an hour, with the most efficient player being rewarded in the end.

In the second set, Pella recovered from going a break down at 1-3. But as fate would have it, the Argentine lefty was bundled by nerves in the eighth where he ceded another break of serve. And Bautista Agut made no mistake, serving his way into the third round of Indian Wells for the fifth time.

Norrie Excels Again

Cameron Norrie’s 2021 season reached another level of excellence as the British No. 2 produced a stirring three-set win over Tennys Sandgren. Norrie served some revenge on a hot platter for the American who had beaten him in the Auckland final two years ago.

It was a good day for British tennis despite the shock first-round exit of the US Open champion Emma Raducanu. Andy Murray and Dan Evans both progressed in dramatic fashion, and Norrie recovered from the disappointment of dropping the second set and steamrolled in the third.

Norrie led 5-1 in the first set, but nearly made a melee out of it when he spurned three set points on Sandgren’s serve. Eventually, he was able to close out the set 6-4.

In the second set, Norrie established another crucial lead with a break of serve at 4-3. But Sandgren had an appropriate response as he hit despite appearing lethargic from the back of the court. He broke back to level at 4-4, and then broke again in the 12th game to take the set.

But in the decider, the Brit’s level was unmatched by the man from Tennesee. He manufactured seven break points, converting three, and he only dropped three points behind his firsts serve.

Agut v Norrie Prediction and Tip

While Norrie has been in a rich vein of form, Bautista Agut presents a major obstacle in his path to reach the fourth round. We reckon this could go the distance, but the price of the Spaniard is worth taking here.
