Iga Swiatek v Jelena Ostapenko Head to Head

Ostapenko crushed Swiatek in their only previous meeting in Birmingham in 2019, beating the Polish player 6-0, 6-2.

The second seed showed no respect for No. 25 seed Veronika Kudermetova as she crushed the Russian 6-1, 6-0 in jus 54 minutes on Sunday.
Dropping just four points on her serve in the first set and just one in the second, the World No. 4 dominated the contest from start to finish. She struck five aces, converted five of six break points and didn’t face a single break point on her serve.
Featuring in the main draw at Indian Wells for the first time, the 2020 French Open champion had begun the campaign with an equally convincing 6-1, 6-3 win over World no. 45 Petra Martic. 

Martic did break the 20-year-old twice in the second set, but the Polish player was in sensational form, and broke the Croatian twice in the first and four times in the second.

Swiatek, who won a hard court title at the Aelaide International this year, picked up her second title of the year on clay at the Italian Open demolishing Karolina Pliskova 6-0, 6-0 in the final.

More recently, she made her fourth round debuts at Wimbledon and the U.S. Open and was a semifinalist in Ostrava, a week before the start of the Indian Wells Open.

Ostapenko Edges Past Putintseva

World No. 29 Jelena Ostapenko edged past Kazakhstan’s Yulia Putintseva in the third round on Sunday.

Ostapenko didn’t have a great start, losing serve in the vey first game and finding herself 1-3 down in the first set, but she got better as the match progressed and won five consecutive games to claim the first set.

A set down, Putintseva dominated the second, breaking the Latvian thrice while getting broken just once. With the match poised at one-set apiece, it was Ostapenko who took control of the third, going up 4-1 with break of serve. Putintseva did pull one back but couldn’t turn it around, with Ostapenko breaking again in the last game and taking the one hour and 53 minute contest 6-3, 2-6, 6-3.

The World No. 29 had begun her Indian Wells challenge with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Hsieh Su-wei.

The 2017 French Open champion has displayed solid form this year, picking up her fourth career title in Eastbourne and reaching the final in Luxembourg earlier this month, however a fifth title remained elusive after she went down to Clara Tauson in the final.

Swiatek v Ostapenko Prediction and Tip

The way Swiatek has been playing in this tournament it’s hard to see her not making the final four stage. So expect the Polish player to keep her winning momentum going in the Round of 16 and enter a fifth quarterfinal of the season.
