Daria Kasatkina v Anhelina Kalinina Head to Head

Kasatkina and Kalinina have been involved in just one career, head-to-head meeting so far. They ran into each other in the first round at Vancouver hard-court event in 2015, with Kasatkina fighting off stiff resistance from Kalinina to come through in straight sets.

Kasatkina Eyes Winning Start after String of Modest Results

Ever since this year’s Cleveland Championships where she finished in the quarter-finals, Kasatkina didn’t have the run of results going her way. Ranked 30th in singles currently, the Russian was sent packing from the US Open after losing in the third round to Ukrainian tennis star Elina Svitolina.

She followed up her US Open ouster with a modest run at the prestigious Indian Wells Masters. After clearing the opening round via a walkover after her Australian opponent Astra Sharma pulled out with an injury, Kasatkina went down fighting in her next to three-time Grand Slam champion Angelique Kerber.

After being taken apart in the opening set, the Russian blew away the German in the second to put herself back into contention. However, Kerber brought all her years of experience to bear on her opponent to get over the line in three sets.

In her first tournament since the Indian Wells misadventure, the Russian would hope to get off to a winning start on her native soil on Monday.

However, standing between her and a place in the second round of Kremlin Cup is Anhelina Kalinina of Ukraine. While the Russian will happy memories from her title run in 2018 and her win over the Ukrainian in their only previous head-to-head clash,  Kalinina has it in her to spring a nasty surprise on her more accomplished rival this time round.

Kalinina Looking to Snap Out of Lean Run

After two back-to-back second-round finishes at the US Open and the Slovenian Open, Kalinina slumped further as she crashed out in the opening round of the Indian Wells Masters after going down fighting in straight sets to American Shelby Rogers.

She will still be feeling the scars from that defeat as she opens her Kremlin Cup campaign against home favorite and 2018 champion Daria Kasatkina on Monday.

Currently placed at 62nd in singles, the Ukrainian came out on the losing side in her only previous outing against the Russian and her run of poor form across events in the recent events does little to breed confidence of a turnaround as the two go head-to-head for the second time on Monday.

However, in what is possibly the only thing going for Kalinina ahead of this first-round clash is that she will be free from the burden of expectations and would have the licence to express herself in the hope of the right result.

Kasatkina v Kalinina Prediction and Tip

While ranking, head-to-head record and the familiarity of having the won title before would Kasatkina a clear edge going into this first-round clash, Kalinina would be eyeing payback and give it her all in the hope of upending the 2018 champion.
