Lorenzo Musetti v Gianluca Mager Head to Head

The pair have played each other twice before  Musetti won their Challenger match on indoor hardcourts in 2019, and again on the clay of Parma earlier this year.

Musetti Looking to Book NextGen Final Place

Musetti is looking for the ranking points that he needs to guarantee him a place in the ATP NextGen Finals which will be held on home soil in Milan next month.

He has one foot in the event already, but progress in Antwerp will help make doubly sure that the 19-year old will feature in the participants.

Runner-up in the US Open and winner of the Australian Open as a junior, he has yet to win on the main tour, but he began 2021 by finishing as runner-up in two Challenger tournaments in Antalya and Biela.

He then went on to impress at the French Open, where he got to the fourth round.

Since then, he has found success harder to come by, and has rarely been beyond the second round of any event, the stage he reached at the US Open.

Last week in Indian Wells, he lost to the Spaniard Albert Ramos-Vinolas in straight sets in the opening round.

Clay Court Specialist Mager Showing Some Hart Court Form

Mager first made his mark on the senior tour when he reached the final of the Brazil Open in February last year, before the lockdown of the sport, losing eventually to Christian Garin of Chile.

Prior to that he had been better known for his exploits on the Challenger tour, and he won his first tournament at that level for 18 months in April, beating Jaume Munar of Spain in an event in Marbella.

That was on clay, as have been all but one of his previous finals, a clear indication as to where the strength of his game lies.

However, he defied expectations by reaching the quarter-finals in Sofia before losing to Gael Monfils, and, last week, he pulled off something of a surprise in Indian Wells by defeating Marton Fucsovics of Hungary, the world number 42.

He then met Monfils for the second time in just over a week, with the same outcome.

Musetti v Mager Prediction and Tip

Musetti has won both the previous matches between the pair, and will start this contest favourite to maintain that record. Mager, for a man better known for his performances on clay, has been showing some hard court form recently, but he will still go into match as underdog.
