Federico Coria v Alibek Kachmazov Head to Head

It will be a first meeting between the 29-yer-old Coria and the 19-year-old Kachmazov.

Can Clay Specialist Coria Deliver on Hard?

World No. 68 Federico Coria has had a decent clay-court season, but he has not found much success outside his favourite surface.

The Argentine had a 13-9 run on clay this season, finishing runner-up in Bastad, his maiden tour-level final and reaching the semifinal in Cordoba and the quarterfinal in Belgrade-2. He is, however, 2-8 outside of clay and 2-7 on hard courts, with his victories coming over Radu Albot in Melbourne-2 and Lorenzo Musetti in Winston-Salem.

Overall, Coria has a 15-17 record on the tour this year. He’s also featured in three Challenger finals in 2021, all on clay, winning the title in Prostějov, Czech Republic; but finishing runner-up in Milan and Salzburg.

Last week, the 29-year-old featured in the Napoli-2 Challenger on clay, losing in the second round of the tournament.

Since losing in the final of the Swedish Open, he has reached the second round of a tour-level competition just once, at Winston Salem, while falling in the first rounds in Tokyo, the U.S. Open and Indian Wells.

Kachmazov Receives a Wild Card

The 19-year-old will be playing his second main draw match, two years after making his debut in the same tournament.

Russia’s Alibek Kachmazov, who received a wild card for the tournament, was also a wild card in 2019, but he lost to another wild card Alen Avidzba in a three-set first-round match.

Ranked no. 638th in the world, Kachmazov was in the final of an ITF event in Russia last week, finishing runner-up to compatriot Bogdan Bobrov.

Having mostly featured on the ITF circuit this year, he won a title in Russia in February. It will be interesting to see if he can pick his maiden victory on the tour.

Coria v Kachmazov Prediction and Tip

Although Coria is not a hard court player, his experience will give him the edge over Kachmazov in the first round. Expect the Argentine to sail into the next round for a meeting with either the seventh seed Ilya Ivashka or Evgeny Donskoy who faceoff in the first round.
