Jenson Brooksby v Botic van de Zandschulp Head to Head
The two have never met previously.
Brooksby Upsets Fifth Seed Opelka
American qualifier Jenson Brooksby carried his solid form into the main draw, upsetting the fifth seed and compatriot Reilly Opelka in the first round.
Brooksby didn’t face a single break point in the match but he broke Opelka once in each set to win the one-hour-and-13-minute contest 6-4, 6-4.
Ranked No. 70 in the world, the 20-year-old crashed 17 winners and made just six unforced errors in the match. He had qualified for the main draw with wins over with straight set wins over Germany’s Michael Geerts and Slovakia’s Norbert Gombos respectively.
It’s turned out to be a terrific season for Brooksby, who improved to 13-6 following Tuesday’s win. The season saw the American feature in a maiden tour-level final in Newport. He followed it up with a semifinal finish in Washington and also made his Round of 16 debut at the U.S Open, where he took a set of Novak Djokovic before going down in four.
Having got into a good rhythm with three wins with relative ease, Brooksby will now be aiming to make another quarterfinal this season.
Van de Zandschulp Ousts Popyrin
The Netherlands’ Botic van de Zandschulp, who went from qualifiers to quarterfinals at the U.S. Open this year, moved into the second round in Antwerp with a three-set win over Australia’s Alexei Popyrin.
Van de Zandschulp, who got the sole break in the first set, lost serve early in the second as Popyrin took the match to the third set.
The Dutchman made an emphatic comeback in the third, winning all 12 points on his serve and 15 of 22 on return to bagel Popyrin and complete a 6-4, 3-6, 6-0 victory in an hour and 37 minutes.
A quarterfinalist at Melbourne-1, Van de Zandschulp was quiet for most parts of the year on the tour. But an extremely good U.S. Open campaign have improved his season numbers considerably and also propelled him into the top 100 in the world.
Currently ranked No. 62 in the world, Van de Zandschulp will be hoping to build on the solid start with another win on Wednesday.
Brooksby v Van de Zandschulp Prediction and Tip
Brooksby was very impressive against Opelka and he will ask some difficult questions of Van de Zandschulp. Expect the American to beat the Dutchman and progress into the quarterfinals.
