Brandon Nakashima v Henri Laaksonen Head to Head

The pair have never played each other before. This will be the first match between the 20 year old American, and his Swiss opponent, who is nine years older.

Nakashima has already enjoyed a breakthrough season, breaking in to the top 100 for the first time in his career, and reaching two successive finals in July, finishing runner-up at both Los Cabos and In Washington.

Now he needs just a few more ranking points to be certain of a place in the NextGen Finals to be held next month in Milan.

Having come through qualifying in Antwerp, Nakashima made a fine start in his quest to getting them with a victory over the number six seed and world number 26, Alex de Minaur, in the first round on Tuesday.

The opening four games of the match went with serve until the two men swapped service breaks. It then went back on serve until the ninth game when de Minaur was serving to stay in the set. The Australian saved two break points, but Nakashima them converted the third.

At that point, the Australian’s form deserted him completely, and he was not to win another game in the second set. Nakashima was able to romp through the second set virtually unopposed, dropping just three points on his service.

Laaksonen Upsets Paire

Laaksonen is less heralded than Nakashima, but with both Roger Federer and Stan Wawrinka both struggling with injury problems, he is currently the highest ranked active Swiss player.

Like Nakashima he came through qualifying in Antwerp, knocking out the experienced Spaniard Roberto Carballes-Baena in the process.

That earned him a place in the main draw where he faced the mercurial and inconsistent Frenchman, Benoît Paire.

It was Paire who started the stronger, and he broke the Swiss in the fifth game. Laaksonen had a chance to break back. But could not take it, and the Frenchman was able to take the set.

However, the match was then stood on its s head, as Paire suddenly began to struggle with his game. Laaksonen took full advantage and swept through the second set, taking it to love.

The match settled down in the third set and it was back on service until the eighth game, when Laaksonen earned a break point which he then converted,

He served out for the match in the next game.

Nakashima v Laaksonen Prediction and Tip

Although the younger man, Nakashima is the higher ranked and in better form, And, with the added motivation of a good run in Antwerp being enough to secure his place in Milan, he has every incentive to win this match.
