Anett Kontaveit v Andrea Petkovic Head to Head

Kontaveit beat Petkovic in their only meeting in Rome in 2017.

Kontaveit Breezes Past Siniakova

Annett Kontaveit continued her decent form at the Kremlin Cup with a straight sets first round win against the Czech Republic’s Katerina Siniakova.

She faltered in the very first game of the match, dropping serve, but came back well, winning the next five games in a row. Siniakova broke her again to make things interesting but eventually the Estonian closed out the first set.

There was no such resistance from the Czech in the second as the Estonian broke her twice and ran away with the contest 6-3, 6-3.

It’s been a very successful year for the World no. 20 so far. She shared the Grampians Trophy title with Ann Li, finished runner-up in Eastbourne and then claimed two titles on hard courts in Cleveland and Ostrava. The 25-year-old was also a quarterfinalist in Indian Wells and it seems unlikely that she will lose early at the Kremlin Cup.

Petkovic Advances After Ostapenko Retires

Germany’s Andrea Petkovic moved into the second round after Jelena Ostapenko retired from her first round contest.

Ostapenko had won the first set with ease but was bageled in the second and was down 0-2 in the third when she retired.

Ranked No. 79 in the world, the former World No. 9 won a clay title in Cluj-Napoca in Romania and was a runner-up in Hamburg.

Her form on hard courts hasn’t been too good though, as she has struggled on the surface throughout the season and a 5-7 record is a reflection of that. Can she improve that record with a second win in the tournament on Thursday?
