Aslan Karatsev v Karen Khachanov Head to Head
Khachanov is 2-0 on the tour, having beaten Karatsev in St. Petersburg last year and at the Canadian Masters this year.
They also met three times at the lower level, with Khachanov winning twice and Karatsev winning one of those fixtures.
Karatsev Knocks Out Simon
World No. 22 Aslan Karatsev seems to be ending the year the way he started it, as the Russian marched into the semifinals of the Kremlin Cup with a straight sets win over France’s Gilles Simon.
After both players held serve for the first four games, Karatsev was the first to break to go 3-2 up, but Simon broke back immediately only to see the Russian restore the advantage in the next game. Karatsev held on to the lead, going on to claim the first set.
In the second, the Russian found himself 0-2 down, but he came back well, breaking the Frenchman three more times to clinch the contest 6-4, 6-3 in an hour and 27 minutes.
The second seed, who had received a first-round bye, had also won the Round of 16 clash against Egor Gerasimov with the same scoreline, but wasn’t broken by the Belarusian in that match.
The 28-year-old improved to 32-18 for the season. He had a terrific start to the season, reaching the semifinals of the Australian Open on his Grand Slam debut and also won his maiden ATP title in Dubai. He also reached the final in Belgrade, by defeating Novak Djokovic in the semifinals, but following that runner-up finish, he reached just one quarterfinal in 13 tournaments leading up to the Kremlin Cup.
Now into the semifinal, he will be aiming to reach a third career final on Saturday.
Khachanov Holds Off Millman
2018 Kremlin Cup champion Karen Khachanov moved into his second semifinal in Moscow by beating Australia’s John Millman on Friday.
The 25-year-old Olympic silver medallist needed two hours and 25 minutes to battle past the Australian 7-5, 7-6 (7-4).
Khachanov served 19 aces in the match and converted three of 15 break points. His opponent had 12 breaking chances in the match but Khachanov saved 10 of them.
The World no. 31 improved to 33-21 for the season.
In the Round of 16 match against another Australian James Duckworth, Khachanov overturned a first-set deficit before wrapping up the contest 3-6, 6-3, 6-1.
Khachanov, who made his quarterfinal debut at Wimbledon this year, will be featuring in a fourth semifinal of the season. He had reached the final four in Melbourne-1 and Lyon, before reaching the gold medal match in Tokyo.
Can he make it to a second final win a win Saturday?
Karatsev v Khachanov Prediction and Tip
