Emma Raducanu v Polona Hercog Head to Head
Raducanu and Hercog have not met each other before this.
Big Week For Raducanu in Romania
In what is her second home, Emma Raducanu will hope the week in Translyvania will bring back plenty of good memories – the equivalent to what she experienced in New York. Romania is her father’s homeland, and this will be her first official visit back to play professional tennis.
Raducanu astonishingly won her maiden Grand Slam singles title at the US Open last month and consequently became the first qualifier in tennis history to achieve such an accomplishment.
The scrutiny has been immense, something that she had never experienced all her life. From media to fans, and sponsors, Raducanu has emerged as everyone’s cup of tea.
The 18-year-old teenage sensation was given a harsh dose of a reality check in her next outing. Raducanu fell in straight sets to Aliaksandra Sasnovich in the second round at Indian Wells – a match the Brit will be keen to forget.
Having parted company with Andrew Richardson (the coach that steered her to success at Flushing Meadows), Raducanu’s search for a top name to join her camp goes on. So far she hasn’t been able to attract or confirm any new names, and the tennis fraternity has urged her to re-appoint Richardson.
Hercog Looks To Gategrash Party
Polona Hercog may not need to read the script. That is because she stands a better chance of upsetting the newly-crowned US Open champion who is still feeling like a child in a sweet shop.
In as much as Hercog could emulate Sasnovich’s exploits, there is a reason why the Slovenian will fall short in her bid to inflict a second successive defeat on the British No. 1.
The 30-year-old is ranked outside the world’s top 100, and her ranking has been insufficient to warrant automatic main draw spots on most women’s tour-level tournaments.
Hercog has picked up one main draw win at tour level since the clay-court season ended. In fact, she has only tallied four wins all season, her lowest return in a single year since 2017. She can still turn her fortunes around, but with just one more week of regular action, the Slovenian could have her work cut out.
She has had more joy on the ITF circuit where she won the Oeiras title after her opponent Clara Burel pulled out from the final due to injury.
Raducanu v Hercog Prediction and Tip
The spotlight is shining brightly at Emma Raducanu. And the Brit has put up some intensive hitting sessions in an effort to return to winning ways. We expect her to do just that on Monday.
