Sinner In Stellar Form

Italian Jannik Sinner was the winner of the 2019 ATP Next Gen Tour Finals in Milan and now remains in the reckoning for a spot at the year end ATP Tour Finals in Turin.

Sinner started the week 10th in the race with a close finish ahead between Casper Ruud, Hubert Hurkacz, Cameron Norrie, Felix Auger- Aliassime and a few others.

Winner of four titles this year in Melbourne, Washington DC, Sofia and Antwerp respectively, Sinner has a 44-18 overall record this season and was also the runner-up at the Miami Open earlier this year.

It was a convincing start to the week for Sinner, with identical 64 62 scorelines against Reilly Opelka and Dennis Novak, setting up a blockbuster quarter-final against fellow ATP Finals candidate Casper Ruud.

The match was off to a tight start with both players exchanging breaks as the first set looked headed to a tiebreak at 5-5. However Sinner put up a sublime display of shot making, winning the set 7-5 and then running away with the next few games and clinching the match 6-1 in the second set.

With this win, Sinner breaks into the top ten of the ATP rankings and moves into eight place in the run to the ATP finals at Turin.

Tiafoe Registers Back-To-Back Top Wins

Frances Tiafoe maybe often regarded as inconsistent and unable to live up to the hype around him,  but he has been pulling off some impactful results in recent times. The American did well to defeat Stefanos Tsitsipas in the Wmbledon opener and then Canadian Denis Shapovalov at the Canadian Masters earlier this summer.

A good run at the US Open followed where he made the round of 16 defeating number five seed Andrey Rublev enroute, before falling to semi-finalist Felix Auger Aliassime.

The Indian Wells Masters saw him defeat Benoit Paire and Sebastian Korda convincingly before falling to Next Gen Pole Hubert Hurkacz.  Tiafoe was also involved in one of the matches of the year in the opening round at Antwerp last week, where he lost in a 3hr 45 minute thriller to former world number one on a comeback, Andy Murray.

A stacked draw at Vienna here this week saw Tiafoe surprisingly having to play qualifiers. But, the American came through convincingly and then won a straight setter in his opener of the main draw against Serb Dusan Lajovic.

It has been a good week for Tiafoe who made a valiant comeback against Stefaos Tsitsipas in the second round here and followed it with an authoritative straight sets win over Diego Schwartzman in the quarter-finals.

Sinner v Tiaoe Prediction and Tip

Both players have looked in excellent touch and it will be down to who wins the big points on the day. Expect a tight three setter with the Turin bid of Sinner getting stronger.
