Ilya Ivashka v Albert Ramos-Vinolas Head to Head

The pair have never played each other before. This will be the first match between the 27-year old Belarussian, and the Spaniard, who is six years older.

Ivashka Looking for Good End to Fine Season

This has been the best season of Ivashka’s career to date.

Largely unheralded at the start of the year, the man from Belarus reached the semi-finals in Munich, and then went on to reach the fourth round of a Grand Slam for the first time at Wimbledon.

The culmination of all his hard work, though, came at the Winston-Salem Open, where he won his first ATP title, thrashing the Swede Mikael Ymer in the final.

All that has helped him break in the top 50 in the world for the first time and a  deep run in Paris would be a good way to round things off.

He was last in action in St. Petersburg where he was beaten in the second round by the top seed Andrey Rublev.

Ramos-Vinolas Struggles Away from Clay

Like many Spanish players, Ramos-Vinolas is most happy on a clay court, and that has been reflected in his results this season.

After an encouraging start to the year, finishing runner-up at the Cordoba Open and then winning in Estoril, where he beat Cameron Norrie in the final, performances started to fall off when the tour moved to other surfaces, although he did get to the third round of the Miami Masters.

An outlier was Indian Wells where he recorded straight set wins over Lorenzo Musetti and Felix Augur-Aliassime before losing to the eventual finalist Nikoloz Basilashvili.

However, since then results have reverted to type, and he suffered first round defeats in Antwerp and St. Petersburg.

Ivashka v Ramos-Vinolas Prediction and Tip

Although they are evenly matched in terms of world rankings, that disguises the fact that the Spaniard’s best results tend to come on clay. The surface and the conditions, as well as recent form, suggest that Ivashka will begin the clear favourite.
