Gael Monfils v Miomir Kecmanovic Head to Head

The pair have never played each other before, This will be the first match between the 35-year old Frenchman and the Serb, who is thirteen years younger.

Monfils has twice been a finalist in Paris, in 2009 and 2010, and reached the quarter-finals here the last time he participated in the tournament two years ago, have missed the event last year with injury.

At 35, he is now approaching the veteran stage of his career, but he remains the top ranked French player, and a good run in this event again could see him finish the year a top twenty ranked player yet again.

He reached the semi-finals of the Moselle Open, lost to Jannik Sinner in the fianl in Sofia, and then got to the round of 16 in Indian Wells before losing to Alexander Zverev.

In Vienna last week he got to the second round, only to go down in three sets to Diego Schwartzman.

Kecmanovic’s Last Chance to Shine in 2021

Kecmanovic has failed to kick on in 2021 from the form that saw him reach the final in Antalya in 2019 and win the Kitzbuhel Open last September.

Instead ,he has drifted down the rankings and will need to regroup at the end of the season.

However, he has earned himself one last chance to shine this year by qualifying for this event.

He began with a match against Egor Gerasimov of Belarus, beating the world number 105,although he did require a tie-break in the second set.

And then he faced the German Dominik Koepfer, a man ranked 13 places higher than him currently, but who he beat surprisingly comfortably, taking the first set and then cruising through the second without dropping a game.

Although the days when Monfils got to the final in Paris are probably behind him, he should still prove to be too strong for the Serb.
