Cameron Norrie v Reilly Opelka Head to Head

In their one and only ATP encounter of their careers, it was Opelka who emerged as the victor. The match took place in the 2020 Cincinnati Masters where the American prevailed 6-3, 6-4.

Norrie Routs Delbonis

Cameron Norrie of Great Britain kickstarted his Paris Masters campaign with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Federico Delbonis. He needed just a little over an hour to win the match on the back of an impressive, 73 per cent first service win rate and eight winners.

Currently ranked World No. 13 – his best singles ranking yet – Norrie has had a defining spell in late September-early October when he reached the final in ATP San Diego and followed it by winning the Indian Wells Opens. These two performances propelled the 26-year-old into the top 15 as he now looks to make further leaps.

With a win-loss tally of 49-21, Norrie has worked relentlessly this season and moved up in the rankings from the mid-70s to where he is right now. His other feats of the year include runner-up trophies from Estoril Open, Lyon Open, ATP London, and a winner’s cup from the Los Cabos Open.

To put it differently, six of the seven singles finals that Norrie has reached in his career came in 2021.

He has been quite consistent across the spectrum and all surfaces and has got a real chance of making it deep in the Paris Masters – a tournament where his best results to date entail a first-round defeat in 2019.

Opelka Outlasts Krajinovic

Reilly Opelka also started his journey in Paris with a straight-set win – this one over Filip Krajinovic. The American took the match with 6-3, 7-6(4), an hour and 20 minutes with 37 winners and an impressive, 85 per cent first service win rate.

While this result by itself seems impressive, a different picture emerges when we look at his overall form. Opelka arrived in Paris after losing the opening-round bout in three of his last four tournaments – the most recent being the Vienna Open.

But the World No. 25 has also had his moments when he was the runner-up in the Canadian Masters – his best singles performance to date – and later the fourth round at the US Open. Combined with a semifinal run in Rome Masters, these have been Opelka’s sole highlights of the season.

Norrie v Opelka Prediction and Tip

Norrie will start this match as the favourite and while he can expect a lot of resistance from Opelka, he should be able to circumvent it with ease and reach the third round. After all, his pedigree and form has been far more superior to Opelka’s this season.
