This will be the first meeting between the two players on the ATP Tour.

Giron, Looking Confident in Paris

28-year-old Marcos Giron arrived for the Paris Masters following a qualifying-round exit in the Vienna Open. Starting as a qualifier with no real prospects to make it this far, the American has somehow reached the third-round on the back of some brilliant tennis.

In the first round, he toppled Frances Tiafoe in three sets and next, he delivered a 7-6(2), 7-6(4) win over Diego Schwartzman in a little over two hours. He won the match on the back of low unforced errors and a high first-service win rate.

Overall, Giron may not have had that impressive of a run this season but he did reach the semifinal in Sofia and quarterfinal in Metz and Winston-Salem. The current World No. 57 has worked hard on the tour and looks like his efforts are starting to bear rewards. Following his stint in Paris, his current win-loss tally stands at 25-19.

An Easy Start for Ruud

Casper Ruud, starting as the number six seed in Paris, began with a bye into the second round. In his opening match, he met Alexander Bublik and defeated him 6-4, 6-0 in an hour and 17 minutes.

Currently ranked world number eight – his best singles ranking yet – Ruud’s remarkable season can be summarised with a record of 51-14. The 22-year-old has won five singles titles, four of which came on the clay courts. His most recent title was the San Diego Open and since then, he has reached the fourth-round in the Indian Wells Masters and quarterfinals in the Vienna Open.

Over the course of the season, he has also beaten a few top 10 players like Stefanos Tsitsipas and Schwartzman. Ruud has clearly made a name for himself this season and looks primed to go further.

Ruud v Giron Prediction and Tip

Ruud will start as the heavy favourite but Giron has all the makings of being a dark horse. Last week in Vienna, it was Tiafoe who upset the order – perhaps this time, it is Giron’s turn.

Whatever may be the case, Ruud will need to be careful. Expect an entertaining tennis match.
