Mackenzie McDonald v Alejandro Davidovich-Fokina Head to Head
The pair have never played each other before. This will be the first match between the 26 year old American, and the Spaniard, who is four years younger.
McDonald Needs to Regroup at the End of the Season
The highpoint of McDonald’s season came in Washington in August, when he reached hs first senior ATP final, before losing to Jannik Sinner in three sets.
However, rather than that providing s springboard for the American to go on and achieve further success, he has struggled for consistency since then, and he has failed to win more than one match in any tournament he has entered for the past three months.
He needs the end of season to come so that can regroup ahead of next year.
Having suffered successive second round defeats at the US Open, In Indian Wells, Moscow and St. Petersburg, he arrived in Paris last week hoping to end that sequence.
McDonald, though,, lost in the opening round to the Serb, Dusan Lajovic, the world number 34, beaten in straight sets.
Spaniard Davidovich-Fokina Prefers Clay
Like most Spanish players, Davidovich-Fokina – who boasts Russian ancestry – was brought up on clay, and that is the surface on which he has achieved his best results,
He is still waiting for singles success on the senior tour, although he did win the doubles title in Chile last year before lockdown.
It is no surprise, therefore, that his best results in 2021, which included a quarter-final appearance at the Monte Carlo Masters, came in the first half of the year, during the clay court swing.
More recently, though, he did reach the last eight in Antwerp, before losing to the American Jenson Brooksby.
Last week in Paris, he lost his opening round match to the winner of the St. Petersburg Open, Marin Cilic.
McDonald v Davidovich-Fokina Prediction and Tip
This might be a close match between two players out of form after a long season. Davidovich-Fokina is the higher ranked, but the surface may just suit the American’s game better.
