Taylor Fritz v Tommy Paul Head to Head

Although these two were great rivals in their junior days, contesting several Grand Slam titles between them, they did not meet on the senior tour until St. Petersburg two weeks ago, Fritz winning in straight sets.

Fritz Continues His Good Form

If the season were calculated on the past six weeks or so, Fritz would be much higher ranked than hs current standing of 26 in the world.

The Indian Wells semi-finalist and the St. Petersburg finalist is probably one that will be sorry when the current campaign ends, as he has found a rich deep late vein of form.

And he is up and running in Stockholm after beating Egor Gerasimov of Belarus, the world number 113 in the late match on Tuesday evening.

Fritz was on the from foot from the start, pressuring the Gerasimov serve, and, although he saved two break points in his opening service game, when three more were created a little later, Fritz was able to convert one of them.

He was able to serve out for the set from there.

The second set begam with the pair swapping breaks but it settled down after that, until Gerasimov was broken once more. Fritz was able to close out the match next game.

Paul Beats Son of a Legend

Paul came into this event knowing that he had left his best form of the season back on clay, his preferred surface.

However, he was given a kind draw in Stockholm facing Leo Borg, the Swedish wildcard, son of tennis legend Bjorn.

At this stage of his career, the only thing that the son shares with his father is the surname, and it was a straightforward task for the American to progress.

To his credit, Borg managed to keep the first set on serve until, serving to stay in the set, he offered up a break point which Paul ruthlessly converted.

The Swede had an early break back opportunity in the second set, could not take it, and soon found himself a break down,. Another break allowed Paul to close out the match.

Fritz v Paul Prediction and Tip

There is a long standing rivalry between the pair from their junior days, with Paul the better player on clay, whilst Fritz tended to come out on top on other surfaces, like the indoor hard courts to be found in St. Petersburg two weeks ago, and Stockholm here this week.

That makes Fritz again the favourite.
