Veronika Kudermetova v Jaqueline Cristian Head to Head

It’s 1-1 from their previous two meetings. Kudermetova beat Cristian at an ITF tournament in 2017, while Cristian got her revenge at the Fed Cup qualifiers last year.

Kudermetova Bounces Back to Beat Kalinina

Fourth seed Veronika Kudermetova, who received a first-round bye, survived a second round scare as she bounced back from a set down to defeat Ukraine’s Anhelina Kalinina to move into the quarterfinals of the Linz Open.

Both players had 13 break point chances in the match, with the Russian saving eight and converting seven on her way to a 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 victory in two hours and six minutes.

Ranked No. 32 in the world, Kudermetova had great start to the year, when she reached her maiden WTA final in the first tournament of the season in Abu Dhabi. But the Russian couldn’t capture her first title as she went down to Aryna Sabalenka in the title clash.

Kudermetova reached a second final in April, on the green clay in Charleston and this time captured her maiden title but beating Danka Kovinic in the final.

She will be hoping to end the season the way she started it, but plays the dangerous Cristian in the quarterfinals, who has been gallant as well as fortunate this week.

Cristian Advances After Peterson Retirement

World No. 100 Jaqueline Cristian came through the qualifiers as a lucky loser, then overturned a one-set deficit in the first round against Russia’s Kamilla Rakhimova to move into the Round of 16, before getting slightly lucky again with her opponent Rebecca Peterson retiring with an injury in the first set, sending the Romanian into the quarterfinals.

The 23-year-old Cristian, who reached the quarterfinals of the St. Petersburg Open in the first quarter of the year, is finishing the year on a strong note. She was a semifinalist at the WTA 125 in Karlsruhe, and also made it to the final four at the WTA 250 in Astana. She continued her good run in the previous two tournaments as well, falling in the Round of 16 in Tenerife and making it to the last eight in Transylvania.

On Tuesday, Cristian was a break up, leading the first set 5-2 when Peterson had to pull out of the contest. The Romanian will be featuring in a fifth tour-level quarterfinal of the season on Wednesday, with hopes of extending her stay in Linz.

Kudermetova v Cristian Prediction and Tip

Kudermetova hasn’t reached a quarterfinal since Istanbul in April and her recent singles form hasn’t been great either. This makes things a bit interesting with Cristian playing some good tennis of late. However, the fourth seed will still be the favourite to win the match and advance to the semifinals.
