Nakashima converted 6 of 8 break points and saved half of the six that he faced to win the one-hour-and-39-minute contest 3-4 (3-7), 4-1, 4-1, 4-3 (7-1).

It was the second win of the tournament for the 20-year-old World No. 63. He was beaten by top seed Carloss Alcaraz 4-3 (7-4), 4-1, 4-3 (7-4) in the first match, but got into a winning momentum with a 4-1, 3-4 (3-7), 4-1, 4-0 victory over fifth seed Juan Manuel Cerundolo in the second match.

Nakashima, who finished runner-up in Los Cabos and Atlanta and made a quarterfinal appearance in Antwerp this year, has won the most return games in the tournament 11 of 29.
