Daniil Medvedev v Hubert Hurkacz Head to Head

This will be the third meeting between both players. They split their previous meetings, with both going to deciders. Hurkacz won a five-setter in Wimbledon this year, where as Medvedev won their encounter soon thereafter at the Canada Open in Toronto in a decider.

Medvedev Begins Title Defense

World number two Daniil Medvedev has had a strong year having led Russia to an ATP Cup win, being runner-up at the Aussie Open, and winning titles at Marseille, Mallorca and Toronto in addition. To top it all he was the US Open champion earlier this Fall.

Although the Russian had a shock loss in Indian Wells to Grigor Dimitrov after looking in control of the match, he had another good run at the Paris Masters last week falling just short of defending his title against world number one Novak Djokovic.

Medvedev had a good run here last year winning all his matches en route the title defeating Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Dominic Thiem who were then the top three ranked players in the world.

In the more difficult draw this year, Medvedev will look to make a good start to his campaign on Sunday as he begins the tournament as one of the favorites for the trophy.

Hurkacz Makes Tour Finals Debut

It has been a breakthrough season for Pole Hubert Hurkacz winning titles in Delray Beach at the beginning of the season and Metz this Fall,  and more importantly winning the Miami Open Masters 1000 back in the Spring.

Hurkacz was also a semi-finalist at Wimbledon and defeated Roger Federer at Center Court in the quarter-finals en route including a 6-0 third set, an unheard of scoreline against Federer at Wimbledon.

With the season coming to an end, the young player from Poland secured the last remaining spot for the ATP Tour Finals  here in Turin.

More recently, Hurkacz had a good run at the Indian Wells Masters 1000 where just like Medvedev he was ousted in the quarter-finals from a position of strength by Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov.

He followed it with a strong run at the Paris Masters last week falling just short of an upset semi-final win against world number one and eventual title winner Novak Djokovic.

Medvedev v Hurkacz Prediction and Tip

It has been a year of many firsts for both players and both their meetings have gone down to the wire. Expect another good contest here, but Medvedev has looked at getting back into his indoor groove in Paris already and will be a handful on this surface here in Turin. A Medvedev win in two tight sets is on the cards.
