Reilly Opelka v Maxime Cressy Head to Head

Opelka and Cressy are two of the tallest players in tennis history, but remarkably, have not played each other at any level.

Opelka Fails To Complete Three-Peat

Reilly Opelka had won an ATP title in each of the previous two seasons. But in 2021, that streak came to a juddering halt. The big-serving American will console himself with a runner-up finish at the Toronto Masters – the biggest final he has contested in his career.

Opelka won five tiebreak sets during that week in Canada, defeating the likes of Nick Kyrgios, Roberto Bautista Agut, and more impressively Stefanos Tsitsipas. His strong form continued during the North American hard-court swing in New York.

The 24-year-old reached the second week of the US Open for the first time  – his best showing at Grand Slam level. But things did not go as planned after Flushing Meadows.

Opelka won just two matches from his last four ATP tournaments, ending the year as USA’s No. 3, behind Taylor Fritz and John Isner. With a 21-23 record for the year, the man-mountain from Florida has a major battle in his hands if he is to regain his place as the undisputed No. 1 American in 2022.

Cressy Wins Battle Of Qualifiers

Maxime Cressy could count himself lucky after drawing a fellow qualifier in the main draw of the 2022 Melbourne Summer Set. Cressy took care of World No. 375 Rinky Hijikata of Australia 6-3 6-0 to book a meeting against compatriot Reilly Opelka.

Cressy hammered nine aces, and won 73% first-serve points. He was also clinical in breakpoints conversion. He won four out of six, while at the same time protecting his own delivery without facing a genuine threat.

Cressy sits at a career-high ranking of World No. 112. His primary focus in the first quarter of the year should be a place inside the world’s top  100. Having won a Challenger title in Forli last season, the 24-year-old has the tools to get the job done and not entirely rely on one shot to bail him out.

The French-born American has won three on the spin including qualifying matches and without dropping a set. But he enters Thursday’s match as the underdog.

Opelka and Cressy have a combined height that is slightly beyond four meters. There may not even be a rally at all.

Opelka v Cressy Prediction and Tip

Maxime Cressy has earned the title of a player with two first-serves. His risk-tolerant approach to serve is something that completely takes even the most gnarled tennis follower by surprise. Considering that both players possess humongous serves, we might potentially see at least two tiebreaks.
