Anett Kontaveit v Elena-Gabriela Ruse Head to Head

Kontaveit and Ruse have not been involved in a head-to-head outing till date. However, while the Estonian is coming off her breakthrough season, the Romanian will also be high on confidence after securing a fine win in the opening round. With both players having some bit of form behind them, expect their first head-to-head clash to be an explosive affair.

Kontaveit Eyes More Titles in New Season

In what was easily the breakthrough last season for Kontaveit, she won five Tour titles last year climbing up the tennis charts and finishing at No.7 in the year-end singles rankings.

Gunning for more glory in the new season, the Estonian will opened her campaign at the ongoing Sydney International with a clinical straight-set win over Zhang Shuai of China.

The win saw her set up a clast-16 clash with rising Romanian Elena-Gabriela Ruse. While the Estonian’s superior ranking will give her a head-start going into the contest, Ruse has been one of the form players in the event so far, making the main tournament draw with back-to-back qualifying wins and following it up with a fighting win over Poland’s Magdalena Frech.

If the Estonian can produce tennis of the kind that saw her climb the charts last season, she will fancy putting it past the Romanian without much of an effort.

Ruse Eyes Upset Against Kontaveit

Currently ranked 84th in singles, Ruse put down her title aspirations in no uncertain terms at the Sydney International, pummeling Australian Alexandra Osborne in straight sets in her opening qualifying campaign.

Up against Frenchwoman Fiona Ferro in her second qualifier, the Romanian won the opening set via tiebreak and thumped Ferro in the second to cruise into the main tournament draw in straight sets.

Launching her campaign proper against Poland’s Magdalena Frech, Ruse took the opening set before seeing the Pole come right back into the contest by winning the second.

With the match in a flux, Ruse lifted her game in the decider to prevail in three sets.  However, she will face her toughest opponent so far in the form of Estonian Anett Kontaveit.

On current form, Ruse will fancy springing an upset over the higher-ranked Estonian.

Kontaveit v Ruse Prediction and Tip
