Barbora Krejcikova v Caroline Garcia Head to Head

They have split their two previous meetings with Garcia winning in Bastad in 2017 and Krejcikova winning in Strasbourg last year.

Krejcikova Starts on a Winning Note

Playing for the first time since losing all three of her group matches at the WTA Finals, Barbora Krejcikova got her 2022 season off to a great start, defeating Romania’s Jaqueline Cristian in straight sets to book a place in the quarterfinals of the Sydney International.

A solid doubles player, Krejcikova blossomed in singles last season, winning three titles, including the French Open and finishing runner-up in Dubai in what was her first WTA 1000 final.

Before 2021, Krejcikova had a 20-20 career win-loss record in singles, but a 44-18 season has turned things around for her and established her as a solid singles player.

Seeded third in the tournament, the 26-year-old began dictating terms from the very first game against Cristian on Wednesday. She broke her opponent four times and got broken once in a 39-minute first set.

In the second, both players exchanged breaks early, but Krejcikova landed the final blow in the last game of the set, breaking Cristian and sealing the match 6-1, 7-5.

Garcia Gets Walkover Against Rybakina

Caroline Garcia wasn’t expected to reach the quarterfinals but the former World No. 4 got lucky as her second round opponent Elena Rybakina pulled out of the competition, a day after hammering current U.S. Open champion Emma Raducanu 6-0, 6-1.

As a result of the withdrawal, Garcia will be featuring in a first WTA quarterfinal since the Lausanne Open in July last year.

The Frenchwoman has struggled over the last two seasons, and didn’t make a promising start in 2022 either, losing her first round match in Melbourne to Anastasija Sevastova.

The World No. 75 registered her first win of the season on Tuesday, upsetting World No. 22 Jessica Pegula 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) in the first round. Now into the quarterfinals, the 28-year-old will be aiming to reach her first semifinal since Lausanne.

A seven time winner on the tour, Garcia hasn’t reached a final since winning the Nottingham Open in 2019.

Krejcikova v Garcia Prediction and Tip

Krejcikova will be the favourite to win this match. Expect Garcia to put up a fight, but the Czech should still make it to the semifinals in her very first tournament of the season.
