Lloyd Harris v Aleksandar Vukic Head to Head

Harris and Vukic have not been involved in a head-to-head clash till date.

While Harris gave enough glimpses of his tale with some eye-catching performances and results, Vukic proved that he belongs at the top level at his last event in Adelaide. So the fans can expect an expect an intriguing contest as the two players go to battle for the first time.

Harris Faces Tricky Opener Against Vukic

Harris’s build-up to the season’s first Grand Slam has been far from ideal as the South African fell to a opening-round defeat to Kwon Soon-woo of South Korea in his season-opener in Adelaide.

Raising visions of a win after taking the opening set 7-5, the South African lost ground in the second and eventually conceded the set 5-7. With the momentum on his side, the enterprising South Korean, who won his maiden Tour title at Astana last year, went for the kill in the decider and his efforts were rewarded as he eventually prevailed in three sets.

Keen to make amends at the Melbourne showpiece, Harris will open his Australian Open campaign on Monday against homeboy Aleksandar Vukic.

While the two haven’t played each other before, Harris won’t find it easy against the Australian as he is coming off a decent quarter-final finish at his last Tour event in Adelaide and will draw extra motivation from the home crowd.

That he gave fellow Australian Thanasi Kokkinakis a scare before eventually falling to a defeat in the last eight at Adelaide is proof that he has wherewithal to compete at this level and the South African has to play to his potential to come out a winner.

Vukic Looking For Positives From Adelaide Finish Into Melbourne

Throwing himself in among the competitors at the Adelaide 1 event, Vukic showed one and all that he has what it takes to not only fight against top rivals but  also gun for glory.

Launching his campaign in the South Australian city against losing Astana finalist Alexander Bublik Vukic carved out a hard fought victory to set up a second-round outing against seasoned American Steve Johnson.

Roared on by a modest but vocal home crowd, the Australian took down the higher ranked American in straight sets to seal his passage to the quarter-finals.

Up against fellow countryman Thanasi Kokkinakis in the battle for the semifinals, Vukic raised visions of an upset after taking the opening set in a tiebreak. However, stung by his loss in the first set, Kokkinakis came out stronger and more determined in the second and trounced Vukic to take the match to a deciding set.

He was all over Vukic in the final se as the youngster, suddenly overawed by his opponent and overcome by the stage, wilted under the barrage of winner that flew off Kokkinakis’s handle.

While the match ended in defeat for the young Australian, he will take the positives from his quarter-final finish into his opening-round clash with South African Lloyd Harris.

While Harris will hold the aces on account of his better experience and record at this level, Vukic will go into the clash free from the burden of expectations and a license to express himself and push for a win.

Harris v Vukic Prediction and Tip

While career numbers clearly favor Harris going into this opening-round clash, Vukic will count on the home support to defy the odds and go for a win over the South African.
