Diego Schwartzman v Filip Krajinović Head to Head

This will be a first meeting between the two 29-year-olds.

Schwartzman is 2-1 in 2022

Diego Schwartzman is coming off a decent ATP Cup campaign with Argentina. The World No. 13 demolished Nikoloz Basilashvili in straight sets and then fought back from a set down to beat Stefanos Tsitsipas in his second singles match of the year.

The Argentine was however overpowered by Hubert Hurkacz in his singles rubber against Poland, a defeat he would quickly want to put behind as he begins his eighth Australian Open campaign.

Schwartzman has never gone past the fourth round in Melbourne, having reached that stage twice. He could only reach as far as the third round last year, before being sent packing by Aslan Karatsev.

A semifinalist at the French Open two years ago, Schwartzman had broken into the top 10 for the first time in 2020 and peaked to a career-high ranking of No. 8. He remained in the top 10 until May 2021, before slipping down the rankings during a 38-23 season.

A four-time winner on the tour, Schwartzman won his only title of 2021 in Buenos Aires in March. He came very close to winning another later in the season, but finished runner-up to Jannik Sinner in Antwerp.

He would be eager to begin his Australian Open challenge on a winning note.

Krajinović Looking for Consistency

Filip Krajinovic was inconsistent last year. He did reach a fourth career final in Hamburg and was also a semifinalist in Sofia, but he returned disappointing results in most of the other tournaments, which resulted in a 19-23 record at the end of the season.

Ranked No. 39th in the world, the Serbian will be playing at the Australian Open for the sixth time. Last year, he won his first two matches but his run was halted by Daniil Medvedev in the third round. But he didn’t go down without a fight, rallying back from two sets down to force the decider before being bageled by the Russian in the fifth.

The 29-year-old, who has never gone past the third round at a major, brings a 2-1 2022 record to Melbourne.

Playing at the ATP Cup, he defeated Viktor Durasovic and Alejandro Tabilo but fell to Pablo Carreno Busta.

Schwartzman v Krajinović Prediction and Tip

It promises to be an intriguing battle. Schwartzman will be the favourite but Krajinovic can take a set or two of him to make things interesting.
