Paula Badosa v Ajla Tomljanovic Head to Head

This upcoming fixture will be a repeat of their round of 16 bout from the Sydney Tennis Classic last week. Badosa won that match 6-3, 6-4, to eventually move on to win the title and take a 1-0 lead over Tomljanovic.

Badosa in a Brilliant Form

Paula Badosa has never made it past the second round in the Australian Open in her last three appearances. This time around, there is a very real possibility that she may reach the quarterfinals and go beyond.

The number eight seed is heading into the tournament after winning the title in Sydney, beating Belinda Bencic, Daria Kasatkina, and Barbora Krejcikova in nail-biting matches to stake her claim. Badosa also became the current world number six following that trophy run.

This is her third career title with the other two being the Indian Wells Open and Belgrade Open – both of which she won in 2021.

The 24-year-old Spaniard rose to prominence last season with some consistent performance on the tour. She ended the year with a tally of 43-17 and a place in the top 10 – a remarkable improvement given that she started the year as World No. 70.

Badosa also defeated many top 10 players in the process, only to reiterate the fact that she is a force to be reckoned with.

Tomljanovic, Battling Inconsistency

Local favourite Ajla Tomljanovic did not enjoy the best of preparations en route to the Melbourne Slam. She lost in the second round in Adelaide and Sydney albeit, both those losses came at the hands of top-ranked players like Sofia Kenin and Badosa.

But looking at her overall form last season, the Aussie has never been the one to win against big players on the tour. The 28-year-old is also seeking her first WTA title and her last final on the tour was in 2019.

Currently ranked World No. 43, Tomljanovic’s sole highlight of 2021 was her quarterfinal run in Wimbledon. Apart from that, she was beaten in the early stages in all the WTA events she featured in. She may have some experience but the lack of momentum will certainly hinder her chances in the competition.

Badosa v Tomljanovic Prediction and Tip

Expect Badosa to win this one comfortably. She has everything going on for her whereas Tomljanovic is still struggling with her form. No real surprises here.
