Anett Kontaveit v Katerina Siniakova Head to Head

Kontaveit holds a 4-1 lead over her Czech adversary, defeating her twice in 2021 alone. Both those wins came on the hard courts of Cleveland and Moscow.

Kontaveit, Looking to Add a Major to her Tally

Anett Kontaveit is heading for the Australian Open with high hopes of winning her first Grand Slam trophy. And if there was ever a time for her to do it, now would be it.

The Estonian is in the form of her life – defined by a splendid spell in 2021 that saw her reach seven singles finals, four of which were in the WTA 500 category. Kontaveit also made it to the WTA Finals where she was the runner-up after losing to Garbine Muguruza.

With an impressive tally of 48-17 and a litany of top 10 wins under her belt, the 26-year-old is showing no signs of slowing down. In fact, she picked up the 2022 season right where she left – starting with a semifinal run in Sydney last week. She lost to Barbora Krejcikova in a fiercely-contested battle that saw her squander seven match points in the process.

Nonetheless, it was excellent preparation for the kind of intensity she can expect here in Melbourne. She was a quarterfinalist here in 2020, followed by a third-round stint last year.

Siniakova, Doubles No. 1

Katerina Siniakova may not have achieved a whole lot as a singles player, but don’t let that trick you into underestimating here.

The Czech is a doubles prodigy in the making with 15 titles to her name and 13 runner-up trophies. Partnered with Barbora Krejcikova last season, she moved on to win the Madrid Open, French Open, Tokyo Olympics, and WTA Finals. The duo also reached the final in the Australian Open doubles but lost to the pairing of Elise Mertens and Aryna Sabalenka.

In fact, Siniakova started the new season on a high with a doubles title in the Melbourne Summer Set – this one with Bernarda Pera.

On the singles side of things, however, the 25-year-old is on a four-match losing streak. She has lost her opening-round fixtures in her last three attempts, including the ones in Melbourne and Adelaide this year.

Amidst such a lack of form, it may be difficult for Siniakova to hand Kontaveit a rare defeat.

Kontaveit v Siniakova Prediction and Tip

Nothing short of a straight-set victory should be acceptable for Kontaveit here. However, if she hasn’t shaken off that semifinal slugfest against Krejcikova, she may be off her game, thus giving Siniakova an opening to deal some damage. Expect an entertaining game of tennis.
