Paula Badosa v Martina Trevisan Head to Head

This will be the first meeting between the two players on the WTA Tour.

Badosa Dismantles Tomljanovic

Paula Badosa started her Australian Open campaign on a strong note with a clinical 6-4, 6-0 win over the local favourite Ajla Tomljanovic. The Spaniard needed a little under 80 minutes to book the second-round berth. Although she committed far too many unforced errors (25), Badosa did dish out 27 winners to Tomljanovic’s nine.

The number eight seed has had a stellar start to the season and if things go this way, she may soon become the No. 1. Last week in Sydney, she won her third singles trophy after defeating the likes of Belinda Bencic, Daria Kasatkina, and Barbora Krejcikova. With that, she also reached her career-best singles ranking as the world number six.

This is definitely an impressive accomplishment by the 24-year-old Badosa, who was ranked #70 around the same time last season. Since then, she has won a couple of titles – including the Indian Wells Open and reached the latter rounds in a few major tournaments.

Badosa was also a semifinalist in the year-end WTA Finals and is no stranger to facing the top 10 players on the tour.

Trevisan Routs Hibino

Martina Trevisan also started her Aus Open campaign on a solid note with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Nao Hibino of Japan. The number 111th-ranked Italian needed a little over an hour to win the match on the back of a 69% first-service win rate and Hibino’s 29 unforced errors.

By reaching the second round, Trevisan has also posted her best results in the competition so far. The left-handed player arrived in Melbourne as a qualifier and had to play three rounds of matches before reaching the main draw.

With that, the 28-year-old has also surpassed her harrowing start to the season – a first-round qualifying loss to Kimberly Birrell in Melbourne Set 1.

Looking at her overall form, Trevisan has never been among those players who regularly play the elites on the tour. Her success has come mainly on the ITF and low-tier events (three finals last season). Even though she has some exposure on the WTA Tour, she hasn’t really fared that well.

Badosa v Trevisan Prediction and Tip

Expect another straight-set win for Badosa – she is far ahead as a player than her Italian adversary.
