A few years ago Alejandro Tabilo switched allegiance from Canada to Chile in order to represent the country of his origin. It’s a move that did not spark too much interest in his native country at the time but today Tabilo is one of the better players from Chile.
He is not yet in the top 100 but his form in 2022 gives a lot of people hope that he will finally do it because the talent is there. The Golden swing is a part of the season where he usually plays well and after some solid showings at the start of the year, he has reasons to be optimistic.
A couple of wins at the ATP Cup as well as three wins in qualifiers with a solid showing against Alcaraz in the 1st round did not go unnoticed. Now, back on clay Tabilo showed that form was not by accident. In the first round, he easily defeated Cerundolo who led their H2H with 9-1 prior to that match.

Taberner in Search For Matches
2022 has not been too eventful for Taberner yet as the Spanish player only played two matches so far. His only match prior to this event was played in Melbourne at the Australian Open and he lost to Dominik Koepfer in four sets.
It was a solid showing by the Spanish player who does not favour hard courts. Back on clay is where he feels most at home and he showed it in the first round.
Taking on native Argentinian and excellent clay player in Federico Delbonis, Tbaerner shined.
He smashed his opponent 6-4 6-2 to move on to the 2nd round showing that he is still a formidable clay player. He displayed a very high level that will take him far if he can keep it up. That is a big if but he has done it in the past.
He is also trying to get back to the top 100 where he briefly stayed in the past but overall 2021 has been a positive year and he will look t keep that going. He won 3 challengers in 2021 and now playing on the ATP circuit is a great chance that should not go wasted.
Tabilo v Taberner Prediction and Tip
Whenever there is a matchup where two players have played before there is valuable info to get from that. In this case, however, it’s not very useful as it happened 3 years ago when both were rather young and different players. Overall Tabilo probably has a higher ceiling than Taberner due to his ability to play very well on hard courts.
On clay however it’s tough to argue that the Spanish player has the upper hand. Taberner loves to attack with his forehand but it tends to go on missing sprees which complicates quite a few of his matches. In this one I think it will be enough to secure him the win but I don’t think it will be easy.
Three sets are pretty much a given so the over on games is something you might want to take a look at. In terms of match winner I would argue that Taberener has the higher chance to win but I would not be shocked to see Tabilo emerge was the victory either.
