Elias Ymer v Aslan Karatsev Head to Head

The pair have never played each other before. This will be the first match between the 25-year-old Swede, and the Russian, who is three years older.

Qualifier Ymer Makes Second Round

Elias, the elder of the two Ymer tennis playing brothers, had to come through qualifying in Pune, defeating first Dimitar Kuzmanov of Bulgaria, and then beating Marc Polmans of Australia, both in straight sets.

That earned him a first round draw against the Italian Gian Marco Moroni, the world number 202, in a battle of the qualifiers.

It proved to be a tight contest.

Ymer was the first to drop his serve in the first set, but then he replied with a  break of his own, and a further break enabled him to take the set.

The second set went with serve until Ymer offered up three break points, the third of which Moroni was able to convert. He served out to level things up.

Ymer thought he was on the verge of victory when he broke in the third set to make it 5 – 3, only for him to drop his own serve immediately. However, in the next game, he forced a match point and made it count.

Flat Track Bully Karatsev?

Karatsev has already enjoyed success in 2022, beating Andy Murray to win the Melbourne warm-up event in Sydney.

He then went on to reach the third round of the Australian Open in Melbourne, before losing to Adrian Mannarino of France.

Whilst organisers were delighted when he announced his intention to play in Pune, many may wonder what he is doing here when there are more prestigious competing events taking place in Montpellier and Cordoba.

And he potentially faces accusations of being a flat tracked bully, entering a tournament he is odds-on to win even before a ball was served, given that the next highest ranked player in the field is more than fifty places below him in the ATP standings,

Karatsev v Ymer Prediction and Tip

If the Russian plays anywhere near his potential he should win not only this match but the entire tournament.
