Maria Camila Osorio had a good start to her campaign in Guadalajara as she overcame Viktoriya Tomova 6-4, 6-3. This also marks her first win of the 2022 season.
The 20-year-old Colombian last featured in the Australian Open where she was put down by Naomi Osaka in the first round.
Despite a muted start to the year, the World No. 45 will be optimistic about her prospects. Last year, Osorio bagged her maiden WTA title in the Copa Colsanitas Open and ended the season with a runner-up feat in Tenerife. Additionally, she reached the third round in Wimbledon as a qualifier, beating Ekaterina Alexandrova en route.
Her other highlights of the year include a couple of final-four runs in Charleston and Belgrade.
Osorio v Baptiste Prediction and Tip
The path for Baptiste in Guadalajara is effectively open with the early exits of Madison Keys and Emma Raducanu. If anything, she has a good opportunity to leave her mark.
