Sebastian Baez v Thiago Monteiro Head to Head

Baez leads the head-to-head 2-1. He defeated Monteiro at two ATP Challenger finals last season without dropping a set. But the Brazilian has turned the tables in this rivalry by the looks of it after beating the young Argentine in his tournament in Rio less than two weeks ago.

Baez Maintains Near-Perfect Streak In Chile

Sebastian Baez won an astonishing six clay-court titles on the ATP Challenger Tour last season, collecting three of them in Chile.

The 21-year-old has grown to call Chile a second home after extending his near-perfect streak in the western part of South America to 24-2 since the start of last season.

Baez defeated his countryman Juan Ignacio Londero in the Round of 16, dropping just six games. After a bright start to life in the Golden Swing which included a quarterfinal run in Cordoba on home soil, Baezhuffed and puffed at his next two tournaments with very little reward coming his way.

But a return to Chile has reenergized the youngster from Buenos Aires. Baez dominated Londero right from the off with silky footwork and excellent court coverage. Overall, he broke serve a whopping seven times as Londero faltered and won more than half of his return points.

Baez will have the chance to reach the first tour-level semifinal of his career on Friday.

Monteiro Reaches Second Quartefinal Of 2022

Thiago Monteiro fought back from the brink to prevent an all-Argentine quarterfinal in Santiago. The Brazilian hauled himself from a precarious position in his Round of 16 match against Federico Delbonis.

Delbonis had won the first set by garnering the lone break of service. But Monteiro, who fired 10 aces and won 81% first-serve points, fully merited his place in the last eight after a valiant effort in the second and third sets.

The Brazilian World No. 107 won a tight second set that was on a knife-edge for most of it. In the end, a couple of miscalculated shots by Delbonis proved decisive as Monteiro broke in the tenth game of the set to force a decider.

In the third set, it was the Argentine who was under constant pressure from a very aggressive Monteiro. The unseeded Monteiro broke in the fourth game and then late on in the sixth game. He closed out the match with a hold to love.

Baez v Monteiro Prediction and Tip

Monteiro won a tight one between them in Rio, but it was clear the crowd was a massive factor. Baez has improved by leaps and bounds since the start of last season and owns a fantastic record on these shores. So expect the young Argentine to avenge his loss from a fortnight ago.
