Kecmanovic Storms Into Quarterfinals

Sixth seed Miomir Kecmanovic stormed into a second consecutive quarterfinal with a 6-2, 6-0 shellacking of Brazil’s Matheus Pucinellide Almeida in the Round of 16 on Thursday.

The Serbian, ranked No. 63, demolished the World no. 264 in just 65 minutes. He didn’t face a single break point in the match and won 85% points off his first serve.

Kecmanovic, who had also reached the quarterfinals in Rio last week, improved his season record to 9-4 following Thursday’s victory. He had began his campaign in Santiago with a 7-5, 6-1 win over Italy’s Marco Cecchinato. He was broken just once by the Italian, while he converted five of 12 break points.

The 2020 Kitzbuhel champion, who reached the fourth round of the Australian Open this year, is looking to reach a first semifinal since his last four appearance in Buenos Aires last year.

Tabilo Takes Out the Top Seed

Alejandro Tabilo stunned top seed and defending champion Cristian Garin in the second round of the Chile Open on Thursday to reach a second quarterfinal of the season.

The 24-year-old, who enjoyed a stunning run to a maiden ATP final in Cordoba a couple of weeks ago, converted 4 of 5 break points and saved 1 of 2 to beat the World No. 27, 6-3, 6-3.

It was the second time this year, when the World No. 113 knocked out a top seed. He had done that in Cordoba, defeating the No. 1 seed Diego Schwartzmann in the semifinals.

Now into his second quarterfinal of the year, the left-hander would look to extend what has been a stunning South American season. He was also very impressive in the first round, knocking out Argentina’s Renzo Olivo 6-1, 6-3. While he broke the Argentine four times, he didn’t face a single break point in the entire match.

Kecmanović v Tabilo Prediction and Tip

Kecmanovic is the higher-ranked player, with more experience and also seeded in the tournament, so expectations will be high from the Serb. But, he can’t take Tabilo lightly. The Chilean is in top form and having knocked out the top seed his confidence will be sky high. Expect a good contest, with the local hope taking out another seed.
