Taylor Fritz v Miomir Kecmanovic Head to Head

Fritz won their only tour-level meeting in Atlanta in 2019 and has also won at a lower level tournament the same year.

Fritz Rallies Past De Minaur

No. 20 seed Taylor Fritz rebounded from a set down to defeat Australia’s Alex de Minaur and enter a second consecutive Indian Wells quarterfinal. Last year, on his last eight debut in the tournament, Fritz had beaten Alexander Zverev but lost in the semifinal to Nikoloz Basilashvili.

The 24-year-old, who made a fourth round debut in majors at the Australian Open, needed two hours and 26 minutes to dispatch the World No. 31 De Minaur. The American was outplayed in the first set, with the Aussie breaking twice. But he clawed his way back in the second, getting the lone break of the set in the fifth game.

The third set was a close one with both players going up a break once but dropping serve in the very next game. The match eventually needed a third set tiebreak to separate the two. While there was little to choose between them over the first 10 points, Fritz finally got a minibreak to go 6-5 up and then sealed the set and the match for a 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) victory. the highlight of the match was a 44-shot rally in the third set, which ended with Fritz winning the point.

This was the second three-setter that Fritz won in the tournament this year. He had earlier beaten Spain’s Jaume Munar 6-4, 2-6, 7-6 (7-2) in the second round, which followed a 6-1, 6-1 shellacking of Poland’s Kamil Majchrzak in the second round.

Consistent Kecmanovic Upsets Berrettini

World No. 61 Miomir Kecmanovic’s season got even better as the Serb upset sixth seed Matteo Berrettini in the Round of 16 to enter the quarterfinals at Indian Wells for the second time in his career. He had also reached the last eight in 2019 but was stopped from progressing further by Milos Raonic.

With Wednesday’s win, Kecmanovic is now 13-5 for the season. He made a Round of 16 debut in majors at the Australian Open and is coming off consecutive quarterfinal appearances in Rio and Santiago. The win over the World No. 6 was the second top 10 win of his career, following the upset of then No. 6 Alexander Zverev in Cincinnati in 2019.

The win was also a third three-set victory for the Serb in the tournament. The 22-year-old wasn’t broken by the Italian in the match, while he converted two of six break points to win the two hour and 33 minute contest 6-3, 6-7 (5-7), 6-4.

Kecmanovic had also begun the tournament with consecutive three set victories, beating Britain’s Liam Broady 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 in the first round and the 24th seed Marin Cilic 6-7 (7-9), 6-3, 7-6 (8-6) in the second.

On Tuesday, he defeated another higher-ranked player, World no. 47 Botic Van de Zandschulp of the Netherlands, 7-6 (7-3), 7-5.

Showing amazing consistency, Kecmanovic has had a very good start to the season and the 2020 Kitzbuhel champion will now be aiming to reach a first Masters 1000 semifinal on Thursday.

Fritz v Kecmanovic Prediction and Tip

Fritz is the seeded player but such has been Kecmanovic’s consistency that the American will be wary of the Serbian, who looks on course to cause another upset.
