Iga Swiatek v Viktorija Golubic Head to Head
The head-to-head is 2-1 in the Pole’s favor, winning their most recent match in Doha last month. However, Swiatek has been pushed to the limit by her Swiss opponent in their three previous meetings. So we should expect another close affair in this one.

Winning the Sunshine Double in women’s tennis is akin to mission impossible. Only three women have triumphed at both Indian Wells and Miami Open in the same year, unlike in the men’s section which boasts seven names.
Iga Swiatek has the chance to put her name in tennis folklore by winning her first Sunshine Double this fortnight and joining the illustrious list that includes Steffi Graff, Kim Clijsters, and Victoria Azarenka. The Belarusian remains the last player to hold that distinction with her 2016 success.
Swiatek, who has ensured a clean sweep of WTA 1000 titles in 2022 thus far, is also looking for a three-peat. She won the first WTA 1000 event of the year in Doha last month and then defeated all comers at the Indian Wells tennis garden including Greece’s Maria Sakkari in the final.
By virtue of recording an 11th straight match win, Swiatek has climbed to a career-high ranking of No. 2. She is expected to replace Ashleigh Barty at the summit once the new rankings are released next week. Barty, of course, announced her shock retirement from the game at only 25, and has since admitted she will remove herself from the WTA rankings.

Golubic Edges Flipkens
Viktorija Golubic punched her ticket into the second round of the Miami Open with a battling victory over Kirsten Flipkens. The Swiss overcame a second-set blip to record a 6-4 4-6 6-4 win in two hours and 39 minutes – one of the longest matches on Wednesday.
Golubic met her match in Flipkens. The Belgian qualifier used her court craft to good effect, moving her opponent around and forcing her into errors.
But given the Swiss woman’s consistency in the past 12 months, she was bound to escape that hurdle. Golubic nearly paid a hefty price for being profligate. She wasted 14 breakpoints, but ultimately, found her range in the decisive moments, breaking her opponent six times.
The World No. 42 broke the world’s Top 50 for the first time in recent months following a career-best season in 2021. And given her history against Swiatek, there is a potential upset on the cards here.
Swiatek v Golubic Prediction and Tip
Golubic is proving to be a thorn in Swiatek’s game. She was the only player to take a set from Swiatek in Doha last month and has beaten her in their first meeting at Wimbledon in 2019. Swiatek is at her most vulnerable early doors, which is why we are backing another close affair.
