Bulgaria’s Grigor Dimitrov will be joined by tennis legend Andre Agassi for the Australian Open.
Agassi, who has worked with Dimitrov in the past as well, will be a part of the coaching staff that consists of full-time coach Dani Vallverdu. The last time he was with Dimitrov was at the 2018 Paris Masters but the Bulgarian had fallen at the second round of the competition.
He did not have a great rest of the season either which might have prompted Dimitrov to bring back the eight-time Grand Slam winner Agassi for the 2019 Australia Open.
Having once been tipped to take over from Roger Federer as one of the top players in the world, Dimitrov has fallen to 19th in the ATP Rankings. He will kick-start his new season with an appearance at the Brisbane Open, which will be the seventh successive time he will be featuring there.
The Bulgarian has been a two-time finalist at this tournament, having also won it in 2017 when he defeated Kei Nishikori in the final. In the 2013 title-decider he went down to Andy Murray in straight sets.

What would have helped Dimitrov’s decision to re-connect with Agassi is the American’s record at the Australian Open where he won four Grand Slam titles between 1995 and 2003. Interestingly, Agassi had also coached Novak Djokovic for a brief period between 2017 and 2018.
Dimitrov, who was an Australian Open semi-finalist in 2017 and quarter-finalist in 2018, endured a rotten run after that last year. He was knocked out in the third round at the French Open and did not win his opening matches at either the Wimbledon or US Open. This came after a year in 2017 where he won the ATP Finals as well, apart from his first and only Masters 1000 title victory in Cincinnati.
