Fritz Continues to Grow as a Player This Season

World No. 13 Taylor Fritz has been in terrific form this season. The 24-year-old American picked up his first-ever Masters 1000 title, by winning the Indian Wells Open, reached the fourth round of a major for the first time in Melbourne and has carried the hard court form to clay—his least preferred surface.

Fritz, who has a 20-7 overall record this season, is 4-2 on clay and that includes his quarterfinal debut in Monte Carlo and another last eight finish in Houston.

As a result of his consistency, Fritz has broken into the top 15 for the first time in his career and is currently sitting on a career-high ranking of No. 13.

A two-time champion from seven finals at the tour-level, Fritz is yet to reach a clay court final. But given his recent form and consistency he may not be away from one for too long.He doesn’t have an encouraging record in Madrid though and comes into his third edition with a 1-2 record from the previous appearances.

Brooksby Searching for First Win on Clay

Twenty-one-year-old Jenson Brooksby has already displayed his brilliance on hard courts, but he is yet to make an impression on clay. The World No. 43 has played two and lost two on the surface so far. He suffered one of those defeats this season, falling to J.J. Wolf in the first round in Houston.

A three-time champion on the Challenger Tour, Brooksby did win a clay court event last year, capturing the Tallahassee title.

While he is yet to make an impression on clay, his overall record over the first two years at the top level has been impressive, thanks to his two final appearances, in Newport last year and in Dallas this season.

Brooksby is 9-5 this season and will be looking to prove his credentials on clay in Madrid.

Fritz v Brooksby Prediction and Tip
