Elena Rybakina v Katerina Siniakova Head to Head

It’s advantage 3-2 for Rybakina; she has won their last two meetings on the tour – both coming in 2020. This will be their third meeting on clay and the record there is 1-1.

Rybakina Moves Past Dodin

World No. 18 Elena Rybakina started her Madrid Open campaign with a 6-2, 7-5 win over Oceane Dodin in the opener. One more win here and she would have posted her best results in the tournament.

The Kazakh No. 1 started the season on a scintillating note with a runner-up feat in Adelaide 500 (lost to Ashleigh Barty in the final). Since then, the 22-year-old has been hit by a litany of injuries as she was forced to retire early in Sydney, Melbourne, and St. Petersburg.

Rybakina returned to her winning ways slowly in the Indian Wells Open by reaching the quarterfinal – upsetting Victoria Azarenka and Viktorija Golubic en route.

As for her run on clay, she featured in Stuttgart and Charleston but was beaten early – respectively by Paula Badosa and Anhelina Kalinina. She did, however, guide Kazakhstan to a win over Germany in the Billie Jean King Cup qualifiers by dismissing Laura Siegemund and Angelique Kerber.

Siniakova Battles Past Konjuh

Doubles No. 1 Katerina Siniakova had to work hard to earn her opening-round win in Madrid by overcoming Ana Konjuh 0-6, 6-4, 6-2.

The 25-year-old Czech is playing in her first clay tournament of the season as she hopes to get some wins on the circuit. Her best result came in Miami where she reached round three after dismissing Rebecca Marino and Emma Raducanu. That said, Siniakova did retire against Daria Saville after trailing 0-6, 0-1.

On the doubles side of things, she won the Australian Open and Melbourne 250 to retain her #1 ranking.

Rybakina v Siniakova Prediction and Tip

Rybakina is the odds-on favourite here; although she may not have a lot of clay titles, she has a much superior singles pedigree than Siniakova.

That said, the Czech is not an opponent to be undermined. She has 16 doubles titles – four of which she picked up in the Grand Slams. On her best day, she has the skillset to dismiss a player like Rybakina – especially considering that the Kazakh is still a bit rusty and possibly recovering from her previous injuries.

This will be an intriguing contest, one that can see a fair bit of games.
