Ons Jabeur v Maria Sakkari Head to Head

It’s 1-1 between the two ladies with Sakkari getting the last laugh in the 2020 Ostrava Open.

Jabeur Storms into Quarters in Style

Ons Jabeur continues to build on her breakthrough season by making it to yet another quarterfinal on the tour. In fact, this is Tunisian’s fourth successive such stint and seventh overall in 2022.

On the back of this incredible consistency, she is now World No. 7 as she sets her sights to go further and reach her career-best rankings.

Jabeur’s highlights of the season entail clay-court success in Charleston where she was the runner-up and most recently, the title run in Madrid Open. The 27-year-old won the biggest trophy of her career in Spain by overcoming the likes of Simona Halep, Belinda Bencic, and Jessica Pegula.

In the Italian Open, the number seven seed has continued in the same vein – this time by defeating Sorana Cirstea, Ajla Tomljanovic, and Yulia Putintseva in straight sets.

Although she has seen a few losses this year, most of them have come at the hands of well-known, formidable players. Sakkari is certainly in this league and Jabeur needs to be careful.

Sakkari Knocks out Gauff

Maria Sakkari, starting as the number four seed with a bye into the second round, has so far defeated Ekaterina Alexandrova and Cori Gauff in straight sets to reach the quarters.

One more win and she would have matched her semifinal run in the Italian Open 2019. Her chances are good, given her overall pedigree and form but she will need to up her game.

The 26-year-old Greek hasn’t had the best of the starts to the clay swing, seeing that she fell in the early rounds in Stuttgart and Madrid – respectively to Laura Siegemund and Daria Kasatkina. Similarly, in Miami, she succumbed to Beatriz Haddad Maia in the opening round in three sets.

That said, Sakkari enjoyed a terrific run early in the season when she reached the final in St. Petersburg and Indian Wells Open. She broke into the top five as a result and is now ranked World No. 4.

Sakkari v Jabeur Prediction and Tip

While Sakkari has a good chance of winning this, the fact remains that Jabeur is the heavy favourite here.

After all, she has been far more consistent and has had a solid run on clay. This match may go to three sets but at the end, Jabeur should come out on the top.
