Elena-Gabriela Ruse v Bernarda Pera Head to Head

Ruse beat Pera in their only meeting in Prague in 2018.

Ruse Has Been Solid in Opening Rounds in 2022

Elena-Gabriela Ruse is coming off a strange Italian Open campaign. The 24-year-old Romanian was forced to withdraw from her second qualifying round, yet she found a place in the main draw as a lucky loser. Ruse scored a come-from-behind win over Shelby Rogers in the first round but was outclassed by Iga Swiatek in the Round of 32.

Ruse is a good clay court player and 2021 was the best year so far in her singles career, as she reached two finals last year, both on clay. While Ruse earned her maiden title in Hamburg, she finished runner-up in Pallermo.

This year, Ruse is 6-1 in the qualifying rounds, but when it comes to the main events, she has a 6-8 record. Ruse hasn’t won consecutive main draw matches this year but has lost in the opening round just twice.

She will be hoping to get off to another winning start on Monday.

Pera Heads to Strasbourg in Good Form

At the time of writing this preview, Bernarda Pera was preparing for the WTA 125K final in Karsruhe.

The American left-hander has been in top form this week, defeating Nastasja Mariana Schunk, Jule Niemeier, Mai Hontama and Anna-Lena Friedsam on her way to the final, where she is slated to play Egypt’s Mayar Sherif.

This is the first time that Pera has reached a final this year. She had an ordinary start to the season, but has done well in the two WTA 125K clay events she has featured in this year. Earlier this month, she was a quarterfinalist in Saint Malo.

Stats would show that Pera likes playing on clay more than other surfaces, as 18 of her 20 of ITF finals have been on clay. She has won nine titles at that level, with seven of those coming on clay.

At the tour-level she is 1-2 this year, having faltered in the qualifiers most of the tie. Her only main draw win this year was against Ekaterina Alexandrova in the first grand slam of the year.

Ruse v Pera Prediction and Tip

Pera will be looking to keep her WTA 125 form going in the WTA 250 event, but faces a tough opponent up front. Expect Ruse to edge through in three sets.

Tip: Pera to win in three sets: 3/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
