Watson’s Never Gone Beyond Second Round Here

She has been around since 2011, has seen a career-best ranking of 38th in the world but Watson has struggled at French Open.

In the 11 occasions that Watson has been a part at Roland-Garros, she has reached the second round on six occasions but never beyond that. And of the remaining five times, the Brit hasn’t even made it past the qualifying twice.

Her form on clay this season hasn’t been much of note either, with a second round appearance at Strasbourg being her best showing so far. She did win a round at the WTA 125 event in Saint-Malo as well, but even those wins came against unheralded, way lower-ranked players.

Earlier this season, Watson had made it to the third round at Miami – which has been her best performance for the season. Can she show some of that wherewithal and get going with that rare opening win at Roland-Garros?

Jacquemot More Tuned into Lower Circuit

While she is just 19, Jacquemot has shown signs of spark that could hold her in a good stead in the times to come. Ranked 216th in the world, Jacquemot is probably looking to climb up the charts quickly enough to make the main draws of majors on her own, not relying on wildcards or qualifications.

This year Jacquemot has featured in a couple of WTA 125 competitions apart from her ITF campaigns and done better than what would have been expected from her.

At Saint-Malo she made the second round before going better in Paris, where she also got the better of Anna Kalinskaya – a top 100 player.

Jacquemot will know that despite the difference in the rankings – Watson’s more than 100 places ahead of her – she has a good chance to win her maiden Grand Slam match.

Watson v Jacquemot Prediction and Tip

Despite being the higher-ranked player by some distance, Watson starts off a second-favourite at 1/1 to her opponent’s 3/4. Backing Jacquemot to win this.
