Denis Kudla has a 3-7 tour-level record this season.
The American, who won the singles and doubles titles at the Phoenix Challenger in March, produced his best result at the top level in Miami. After coming through the qualifiers he won the first two rounds of the tournament, which included a win over No. 21 Lorenzo Sonego. He eventually fell in the third round to Thanasi Kokkinakis.
Kudla also won a round in Sydney, but has failed to win more matches at the tour level this year.
The 29-year-old has made four previous main draw appearances in Roland Garros, but is yet to reach the second round.
While he has plenty of experience playing on hard and grass courts, he is 5-15 on clay and will be desperate to improve that record.

Kubler Makes Main Draw Debut
World No. 161 Jason Kubler showed nerves of steel in the qualifying rounds. The Australian beat Italy’s Riccardo Bonadio in three sets in the first qualifying round.
He was stretched to the limit in a three-hour-plus second qualifying round, where he saved a match point to beat Moldova’s Radu Albot in three.
It was a relatively easier third qualifying round for Kubler, who beat Portugal’s Pedro Sousa 7-5, 6-2 and advanced main draw at Roland Garros for the first time in his career.
The 29-year-old hasn’t played much at the tour level, but has a 13-10 record on clay in Challenger and Futures finals. Having got into a good rhythm in the qualifying rounds, he will be looking to keep the winning run going in the main draw.
Kudla v Kubler Prediction and Tip
Kubler is better player on clay. He is not much experienced at the tour level but has been very successful on the surface at the lower levels. Expect him to edge past Kudla in the opener.
