Pliskova v Tsurenko Head to Head

Pliskova and Tsurenko are now heading into their sixth meeting on the WTA Tour. At the moment, the Czech leads her Ukranian adversary by a slim 3-2 margin.

Their last encounter took place in the early rounds of the 2017 Madrid Open. Back then, Pliskova won the match in three sets to get one up over Tsurenko.

Pliskova’s Bid for a Second Brisbane Title

Pliskova’s performance in Brisbane has been fairly impressive so far. It is quite reminiscent of her winning run in the competition back in 2017. She won the tournament after defeating the likes of Roberta Vinci, Elina Svitolina, and Alize Cornet.

In the current edition, she has faced less than some difficulty. She won her opening match against Yulia Putintseva in three sets after which, she breezed past Marie Bouzkova, Ajla Tomljanovic, and Donna Vekic to reach the final.

The Czech enjoyed a decent spell in 2018, having won the title in Tokyo and Stuttgart. She also reached the penultimate rounds in many big tournaments like the Miami Open, Indian Wells, US Open, Australian Open, among others. She ended the season at the WTA Finals, where she was a semifinalist.

Tsurenko’s First Final Since February 2018

Tsurenko, who is currently the World No. 27, last featured in a final back in the 2018 WTA Acapulco. She started that event as the defending champion and moved on to successfully win the competition.

Since then, she spent most of her time on the tour trying to repeat her feat again but her efforts were in vain. However, she did manage to reach the quarterfinal at the Cincinnati Open and US Open. Tsurenko ended her season in Moscow where she lost in the first round to Daria Kasatkina.

As for her campaign in Brisbane, she started her run against Mihaela Buzarnescu after which, she edged past Kimberly Birrell in straight sets. She then produced a similar result against Anett Kontaveit in the quarterfinal. Her most impressive result, however, came against the current US Open champion and the second seed Naomi Osaka.

The Ukranian won that match 6-2, 6-4, in a remarkable performance to set up the final clash with Pliskova.

Pliskova v Tsurenko Predictions

Pliskova is definitely going to start this match as the favorite to win. She is far more consistent on the tour and has performed fairly well in Brisbane so far. At the same time, Tsurenko has put up a good show and her win against Osaka should serve as a warning for the Czech. All in all, this is going to be an entertaining affair.
