Panna Udvardy v Fernanda Contreras Gómez Head to Head
Their only previous meeting came at the Naples ITF competition of 2021 with Udvardy winning it in three sets to make it to the final.

She started off the year on the back of a seven-match losing streak, but all of those defeats came on hard court surfaces, with the results changing around when Udvardy shifted over to her favourite clay court surface.
A quarterfinal appearance at Marbella followed soon after, and she then made it to the last eight stage of the Karlsruhe Open as well.
At Rabat last week, Udvardy was bumped out in the first round despite starting out a favourite against Clara Burel but as far as getting back some of her momentum goes, she seems to be back.
And starting out against a player ranked outside the top 200, Udvardy will have her chance of winning her first ever Grand Slam match.

Contreras Gómez Scrapes Through to the Main Draw
24-year-old Contreras Gómez has never seen the top 200 of the WTA rankings chart in her career yet but she has achieved something here that she had never done before. Qualify for a Grand Slam major opener.
And Contreras Gómez got there through three, tough three-setters in the process.
It could have been all over for Contreras Gómez in the very first round of those qualifiers when she fell a set behind and then had to fight through a final set tie-breaker to come through against Caty McNally. Another couple of three-setters followed after that before Contreras Gómez made it through to the main draw.
What she would now want is for another fighting showing to make her maiden appearance memorable.

While Contreras Gómez has shown her tenacity so far, we expect Udvardy to use her super experience and come through for the win. A hard-fought but a straight-set win even.
