Veronika Kudermetova v Aleksandra Krunic Head to Head
Their only previous meeting came on the grass courts of Hertogenbosch in 2018 with Krunic winning the match in straight sets.

She was a heavy favourite, 11/50 to win it, in her first round match against Lin Zhu but Kudermetova was made to work for her victory by her Chinese opponent.
In the end Kudermetova registered a 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 win over Zhu but following on from her three-match losing streak heading into this French Open edition, that victory raises a few question-marks about her performance.
Kudermetova looked to have started the clay court season well when she stormed into the final of Istanbul Open but things have gone a little awry for the Russian since then.
A 6-1, 6-3 rout in that title-decider at the hands of Anastasia Potapova was followed by losses in the first round at both, Madrid and Rome. And while one of those defeats came to Paula Badosa, she would have expected to do a lot better than win just three games in that one.
With a struggling first round win here at Roland-Garros therefore, the question is if Kudermetova has the confidence to live up to her favourites billing come round two.

Qualifier Krunic Continues Run
Krunic was once ranked 39th in the world but has fallen off the rails in recent times and that’s reflected in her world ranking of 114th at the moment. And things had been no different at the start of this season either, with Krunic losing three successive WTA matches before struggling to make the second round of an ITF event.
Another string of losses followed for Krunic, which made it eight tournaments in a row in which she hadn’t won a main draw match.
Which is why Krunic’s first round win here would come as a huge relief for the Serbian player.
The 6-4, 6-3 victory would give Krunic hope but at the same time she would do well to remember it came against someone who was on a four-match losing streak of her own.
Against Kudermetova, things might not get that easy.

Kudermetova might not be in the best of form but she should have enough firepower to get past the otherwise struggling Krunic in this second round match. It might not be the most straightforward of wins though.
