Iga Swiatek v Alison Riske Head to Head

Swiatek leads 2-0; both those wins came on clay courts in, as expected, clinical performances by the Pole in 2021. They last met in Rome where Riske retired trailing 4-5 in the first set.

Swiatek Starts Strong

World No. 1 Iga Swiatek arrived in Paris with many expectations and speculations about going the distance. With a 6-2, 6-0 win over Lesia Tsurenko in the opener, she has now extended her winning streak to 29 matches.

The top seed won the Slam here in 2020 while last year, she was the doubles runner-up.

This season, the 20-year-old Pole has won five titles – all of which came consecutively. Swiatek won the Qatar Open, the Sunshine Doubles in Indian Wells and Miami and followed it with another title run in Stuttgart and most recently, the Italian Open.

In these tournaments, Iga has defeated some big names like Ons Jabeur, Aryna Sabalenka, Bianca Andreescu, Victoria Azarenka, Emma Raducanu, Petra Kvitova, Naomi Osaka, Simona Halep, Angelique Kerber, Maria Sakkari, and Anett Kontaveit. With this kind of resume, anyone and everyone against her is bound to feel the heat.

The only thing that can stop Swiatek right now is herself – should she start feeling the pressure of the tour. But by the looks of it, that is not likely to happen.

Riske Dispatches Yastremska

Alison Riske prepared for one of the most difficult matches of her 2022 spell with a clinical, 6-3, 6-3 win over Dayana Yastremska in the opener.

Looking at her form this season, she has seen a fair bit of success on the hard courts as she reached the final in Adelaide International 2 and later, the fourth round in Miami. At the same time, the #43-ranked American has not been entirely consistent as she lost early in Indian Wells, Doha, Dubai, Australian Open, and Melbourne 1.

The picture seems to be grimmer on the clay courts but that is somewhat understandable as the red dirt is not Riske’s preferred surface. Case in point, this is the first time since 2014 that the 31-year-old has won her first-round bout in Paris.

Her preparations for the Slam this year entailed a couple of tournaments in Charleston and Madrid; Riske lost in the second round and first round respectively.

Swiatek v Riske Prediction and Tip

Swiatek is bound to win this one. Her opponent is on the opposite spectrum of the form, especially on clay. It is a matter of how she does it.

From a betting perspective, Riske makes for an appealing handicap – especially at over 7 games. Realistically, she has the experience to win a few games over Swiatek in a bid to go down fighting.

Tip: Riske Handicap, +7.5: 6/5 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
