Elise Mertens v Marie Bouzkova Head to Head
Bouzkova leads 1-0, last beating Mertens in the 2015 WTA Monterrey quarterfinal.

World No. 69 Marie Bouzkova was absolutely clinical in her 6-2, 6-1 win over Anastasia Gasanova in the French Open first round.
This is the first time in five attempts that the Czech has reached this stage in Paris; it is a personal best for her. Now, she has a solid chance of going further and posting her best results in a Grand Slam.
Bouzkova arrived in Paris with a tally of 21-8. She last played in the Madrid Open where she made it to round three as a qualifier – defeating Karolina Pliskova in the opener. The 23-year-old reached the same stage in Indian Wells, Monterrey, and was also a runner-up in the Guadalajara Open.
Marie has caused some serious waves this season and has done well to hold her own. Her defeats have come against fairly well-established players, barring a handful of shock losses to Ekaterina Alexandrova, and Varvara Gracheva.
On the doubles side of things, she won the Istanbul Cup with Sara Sorribes Tormo.

Mertens, in a Slump
With a tally of 11-9, Elise Mertens hasn’t had the best of the year. She has now dropped to the 32nd place in the ranking although, on the doubles tour, she is No. 2.
However, that may not be of much help when she takes on Bouzkova. The Belgian last played in Strasbourg where she fell in the quarterfinal to the 68-ranked Kaja Juvan. That, and a similar streak in St. Petersburg and the Australian Open were her singles highlights of the season.
Mertens lost in the opening matches in Dubai, Doha, Miami, Istanbul, and Sydney. A few of those losses came against top 10 players while the rest were rather surprising, notable against Rebecca Peterson, Linda Fruhvirtova, Jil Teichmann, and Daria Saville. There is no reason why Bouzkova cannot add herself to that list.
That said, she did win the Dubai International and reached the final in Doha and Miami Open with Veronika Kudermetova to maintain her dominance on the doubles circuit.
Here in Paris, she knocked out Elena-Gabriela Ruse with 6-3, 6-1.
Mertens v Bouzkova Prediction and Tip
Mertens may be the odds-on favourite but Bouzkova has a real chance of winning this one. She has some momentum, has had a few good matches, and can very well add to rusty, inconsistent Mertens’ misery.
