Anna Karolina Schmiedlova v Danka Kovinic Head to Head
Schmiedlova leads 4-2, having won three of their last four meetings. Their last meeting, however, took place in the 2015 US Open.
Schmiedlova Survives Kucova
Anna Karolina Schmiedlova is just one win away from reaching the third round in Paris, only for the second time in her career. She began her journey with a well-fought, three-set win over Kristina Kucova with 4-6, 7-6(1), 6-2.
In what has largely been an underwhelming year for the Slovak, she is now hoping to get some positives here before the action moves to grass. It is going to be challenging, to say the least, as Schmiedlova hasn’t been at her best.
In her six preceding clay tournaments – two Challengers and the rest WTA – she failed to win more than two main-draw matches. The Marbella Challenger may serve as an exception as she lost only in the quarterfinal. In Madrid, she fell to Cori Gauff in the opening round while in Rabat last week, she was beaten by Ajla Tomljanovic.
For this reason, Schmiedlova is now ranked World No. 92 with her current tally now at 10-11.
Kovinic Knocks out Samsonova
Danka Kovinic fired warning shots with her 2-6, 6-2, 6-1 win over the number 25 seed Liudmila Samsonova.
The former world number 46, who is now ranking just three places below her current opponent, arrived in Paris with a tally of 15-9. More impressively, she bagged the ITF Wiesbaden to build some traction for clay; it was also her first title of any sort since 2019.
Moreover, the Montenegran was a semifinalist in Marbella and made it to the third round in Indian Wells – upsetting Karolina Pliskova and Jil Teichmann. Kovinic reached the same stage in the Melbourne Slam too, beating Emma Raducanu in the opener.
Kovinic v Schmiedlova Prediction and Tip
The match has Kovinic written all over it. She has beaten a few big names this season and is primed with a fair bit of momentum and wins on clay. As for her opponent, she has been far too rusty and erratic.
Danka may be pushed to three sets but ultimately, Schmiedlova should not prove to be too big of a challenge.
